Massage as an Insurance Policy
One of my clients couldn't have put it better the other day; they said to me they view their massage as "preventative maintenance". They explained it to their friends as being similar to taking out an insurance policy- they invest in themselves at least once/twice month and it prevents them from taking time off work due to back or muscular injuries. "Just think if you invest £35 a month compared to taking a week off work which totals on average to a couple of hundred a week" they said. This made me think and really reinvigorated my message that massage is more than just indulgence; it's needed on a physical and also mental/emotional level. The amount of travelling we do, the hours sat at an office desk, the busy stressful lives we lead, all build up. It takes a lot longer to sort out muscular build up when massage is the last resort; it's much better to have regular maintenance treatments so the muscles physically 'remember' to relax.
